GreatLIFE Community-

HOPE! As the year winds down, I found myself needing something I didn’t even realize I’d been missing.

After a full and busy week of Christmas and work, I was able to sneak away into a field with Chase. With everything that’s been going on this fall, I hadn’t made getting out to hunt the priority I normally do. The weather was perfect. No one in sight. Just my dog, the quiet, and open space.

As we walked deeper into the field, I could feel my heart rate go up, but my stress slowly leaving my body. In the middle of nowhere, with nothing but silence and movement, I felt clarity begin to replace the chaos. I realized just how much I need solitude from time to time; not to escape life, but to reset so I can return to it fully present.

There were no birds in sight, which would normally be frustrating. But that day was different. It wasn’t about the hunt. It was about the pause.

Near the end of the field, I noticed a single pheasant track in the snow. I actually laughed out loud. “That’s all we need” I told Chase.

HOPE!

Without that tiny track, I probably would have walked away feeling defeated. That one track reminded me they were there; maybe not today, but close.

As we start a new year, that moment has stayed with me.

Three Takeaways I’m Carrying Into the New Year:

1. Look for hope– The signs are everywhere if we’re willing to see them. Sometimes all it takes is one small reminder to keep us moving forward.

2. Practice gratitude…even when it’s hard– It’s easy when things are going well. It’s much harder when life throws a curveball. But finding gratitude, even then, can reshape how we experience any situation.

3. Find your reset– Life is a marathon. It can feel monotonous, exhausting, and overwhelming at times. We all need something that helps reset our mind and body so we can show up as the best version of ourselves.

As we step into the new year, my encouragement is simple: plan for those reset moments. Protect them. You don’t always need answers; sometimes you just need space, quiet, and a reminder that hope is closer than you think.

BOOK CLUB:

This month’s book, Atomic Habits, is a powerful reminder that small, consistent actions compound into remarkable results over time. Change doesn’t come from one big moment but rather it comes from daily choices.

Three Big Takeaways:

  1. Focus on systems, not goals- Goals set direction, but systems create progress.
  2. Small habits compound- Tiny improvements, done consistently, create massive change.
  3. Identity matters- Lasting change happens when we shift from what we want to do to who we want to become.

NEXT MONTH’S BOOK:

What To Say When You Talk to Yourself by Shad Helmstetter

POSITIVE THOUGHT:

Like that single track in the snow, hope and growth often begin small. When we pause, notice them, and build simple, intentional habits, they lead us somewhere meaningful.

To the journey,

Nick
