GreatLIFE Community,
HUMBLED. That’s the word that comes to mind as I wrap up my first-ever season coaching my daughters in flag football. Both decided they wanted to give it a try this year, and for the most part it fit around our soccer schedule so we signed them up. Somewhere along the way, I was told I’d be an assistant coach. With my background in football, I said “sure,” not really thinking much about it…until the season started.
A couple of practices in, we stepped on the field for our first game. Within minutes, it was clear: we were outmatched. I felt oddly like I was in the movie, Little Giants! 😊 None of our girls had played much football before, while the other team was calling plays, running crisp routes, and executing like pros. Right then and there, I knew it was going to be a long season that wasn’t going to be measured in wins, but in small victories. So we celebrated those little milestones like they were championships. In our first game, one completed pass for positive yardage. TWO WEEKS LATER, the first first down. The very next game, our first points of the season. Each step, no matter how small, was worth celebrating. I’d like to say that we ended up with our own “Miracle on Ice” moment but the reality is we lost every game. Fortunately, we didn’t allow the lesson to be lost in the losses and were able to learn about resilience, effort, and the joy of improving together. The girls were younger than almost every other team in the league, but they showed up, got better, and had fun. For me, it was humbling and inspiring. GO PUMAS! 😊
My Top 3 Takeaways
1. Celebrate Small Victories…Even if they don’t change the scoreboard, small wins matter. Recognizing progress along the way fuels motivation and joy.
2. Effort Shapes Character…Winning is great, but effort builds resilience. Giving your best, even when the outcome isn’t what you hoped for, creates lasting growth.
3. The Scoreboard Isn’t Everything…True success is found in learning, improving, and having fun along the way. Sometimes the most meaningful seasons aren’t marked by trophies, but by lessons learned together.

BOOK CLUB
This month’s read was The Power of One More by Ed Mylett. It’s a book that challenges us to push beyond our comfort zones and recognize that greatness often lives just on the other side of “one more.”
Key Takeaways:
- One more action can change everything. Breakthroughs rarely come from giant leaps; they come from consistently pushing past limits one step at a time.
- Identity drives behavior. If we see ourselves as capable of “one more,” we’ll live into that identity daily.
- The ripple effect is real. Our extra effort doesn’t just impact us. It affects our families, our teams, and our communities

POSITIVE THOUGHT
Sometimes the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just “one more.” One more moment of presence, one more word of encouragement, one more act of effort. Don’t underestimate the impact of going just a little further, it may be the very thing that creates lasting change.
Thank you for being part of our GreatLIFE community!
To the journey,
Nick
