A Letter from Tom Walsh – September 2022 Newsletter

Dear GreatLIFE Member, Team Members & Support Team,

Fall is my favorite time of the year with the football season, pheasant hunting and seasonal change of colors! With nine grand kids living here and their involvement in sports and the arts, we have several games a week to attend with volleyball and football.

We are wrapping up the installation of a new $1.5 million irrigation system at our Willow Run golf course in replacing the original system from 1986. This Fall, and for sure next season, we should see the benefits of reaching fairways and roughs throughout the course.

This past week we hosted 50+ GreatLIFE Corporate Partners and their Guests for a two-person scramble at our Worthington GreatLIFE golf course. It was a fun and great success thanks to our Director of Corporate Partner Jacki Pranger and her organizational skills and our Team at GreatLIFE Worthington.

As we are finalizing the Challenge for Change golf event, it looks like each of our coalition of charitable and civic organizations will get at least $2,000 each above the $17,500 in prize money that went to the first three place winner’s chosen organizations. Special thanks to the 37 teams that participated including 27 GreatLIFE Corporate Partner Teams.

With the school year beginning, our GreatLIFE Team Members are in seven Title I elementary schools with our PLAY Everything program teaching kids the connectivity of sports, specific sport related training and good sportsmanship. With our Stand Together’s Youth Entrepreneur program we are beginning our third year in seven middle schools and O’Gorman Junior High School where kids learn entrepreneurial skills firsthand. Additionally with our TeamMates Mentoring of Sioux Falls program we are in six elementary schools with Mentors meeting with Mentees weekly for 30 to 45 minutes at the schools. Please consider becoming a Mentor. You can learn more about TeamMates by going to SiouxFallsTeammates.org if interested!

This week, our former head PGA Pro Larry Gunia at our Willow Run Golf Club has been unanimously approved for induction into the South Dakota Golf Association Hall of Fame. Larry has been involved with golf since being a teenager. I have known Larry from his days at the Minnehaha Country Club and from day one since I became involved with Willow Run. Larry is one of the kindest gentleman I have ever known with a whatever it takes attitude. Please congratulate Larry if you see him.

Thanks for being a GreatLIFE Member! Hope you enjoy this Fall and the enclosed video about extraordinary service which Larry exemplified.
