Building together: Beck & Hofer, GreatLIFE put broad partnership to work in latest project
Sept. 28, 2022
From fitness center build-outs to golf course clubhouses, as GreatLIFE has grown its business, a local construction firm has built along with it.
“We’ve worked with GreatLIFE on a number of different projects and new facilities over the years, new build-outs for fitness center, probably too many to count on two hands,” said Tyler Morris, president of Beck & Hofer Construction, who took over the business from co-founder Dick Beck in 2018.
The company helped build the majority of GreatLIFE’s fitness locations across the Sioux Falls metro area, played a role in the initial renovation of Woodlake Athletic Club and built the new clubhouse at Central Valley Golf Course.
Most recently, Beck & Hofer built the GreatLIFE Cares Foundation Tennis Complex at Tomar Park. The new 12-court facility helps meet the city’s growing demand for tennis at all ages.
“It turned out amazing,” Morris said. “It was a large post-tension concrete project, and having been awhile since performing post-tension, our team took the challenge head-on and outperformed. They did an extremely good job coordinating and pulling off all the large concrete pours together to make it happen, and it went really well. It’s a perfect example of a public-private partnership.”
Beck & Hofer has enjoyed its own long corporate partnership with GreatLIFE.
“Through that, we’re able to offer our employees a discounted membership, and we’ve really encouraged them to take advantage of it,” Morris said. “In our business, everything involved in taking care of your body through nutrition, fitness, movement and stretching is important, and GreatLIFE allows our team to do that. And the Recovery Lounges, which we’ve also helped build, are a great option for them.”
In addition to its work with GreatLIFE, Beck & Hofer is in the middle of a busy time in construction. Major building projects include a large new corporate office and manufacturing plant for Thermo Bond Buildings in Elk Point, a new softball field for Augustana University and a new facility for Dakota Supply Group on the north side of Sioux Falls. Other large projects are planned for next year.
“It’s been extremely good,” Morris said. “The majority of our team works throughout the entire year. So we’re happy to be able to offer a benefit like GreatLIFE savings to help promote healthy lifestyles.”
A GreatLIFE member himself, Morris often can be found at Rocky Run Golf Course in his hometown of Dell Rapids.
“Golf is a great pleasure of mine, so I really enjoy the membership and the fitness facility in Dell Rapids,” he said.
“As a corporate partner, we also do everything we can to partner with GreatLIFE in community campaigns like food drives, the Challenge for Change and other things they do to support the GreatLIFE Cares Foundation.”
GreatLIFE’s Jacki Pranger has worked with Beck & Hofer as a partner since 2018, though the relationship dates back years before that.
“Having worked with multiple individuals on their team, I can truly see how much they value their customers and employees,” she said. “We are honored to have them as a corporate partner, and I am looking forward to growing our partnership in the future.”
The two organizations align in their values too, Morris added.
“The way GreatLIFE values their clients, customers and employees really complements our internal values and the quality of life we try to achieve for our employees. It’s a no-brainer partnership for us.”
