Got a budding basketball or football player? These clinics are for you
Would the young athlete in your family like to learn from a Skyforce leader or a former college football player? Then there’s an upcoming PLAY Everything clinic for you.
GreatLIFE has two fall clinics remaining this season. Designed for kids age 8 to 13, they’re open to members and nonmembers. Kids don’t need experience in the sports to attend.
Oct. 9: Basketball clinic
From 10 a.m. to noon at GreatLIFE’s Woodlake basketball court, Travis Voigt will lead this PLAY Everything clinic focused on ball handling, shooting and defensive drills.
Voigt is director of player development and basketball operations for the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
“And he’s a professional basketball trainer himself who has played overseas, so this is a super cool opportunity for kids to get in on and learn from him,” said GreatLIFE’s Tristen Jackson, who coordinates the PLAY Everything program.
Oct. 16: Football clinic
From 10 a.m. to noon, Kalid Waters will host a football clinic at GreatLIFE’s Harrisburg location.
He’s a former college running back who coaches for the Sioux Empire Crusaders and volunteer coaches at Washington High School.
“He led both our football camps this summer, and we had a good response,” Jackson said. “It was cool to have an actual college football player with a coaching background lead it, and we had a good turnout.”
The football camp includes offensive and defensive drills and is open to boys and girls age 8 to 13.
“We’ve had girls participate and have seen some who are good wide receivers and a couple who have been very good at throwing the ball, so it’s definitely an option,” Jackson said.
You can register for the clinics up until the day before they are held.
“All kids will leave with improved technique and just a fun, memorable experience in a short amount of time,” Jackson said.
