Rinken’s Rounds Against Cancer Golf Tournament raised over $12,000 in 2014. Members of the GreatLIFE Cares Foundation, GreatLIFE golf courses, and the Rinken family recently gathered at Vern Eide Acura to present checks to Ian Rinken’s favorite charities.
At just three years old, Ian Rinken was diagnosed with leukemia. During his 38-month battle with the disease, unable to participate in the same activities as other children his age, Ian found the chance to be a kid on the greens of Willow Run, joining his coaching father during practices. Now a sophomore on the SDSU men’s golf team, Ian and his family are helping give back to the charities that helped the Rinkens during their fight.
This year marked the third annual Rinken’s Rounds Against Caner Golf Tournament. The 18-hole, 2-person scramble was held at GreatLIFE’s Bakker Crossing Golf Course on October 12, 2014. Bakker Crossing donated 100 percent of the proceeds to Rinken’s three chosen charities: Make-A-Wish® South Dakota, Camp Bring it On, and Cure Kids Cancer. The GreatLIFE Cares Foundation made a matching pledge for the first $3000 raised and Vern Eide Motorcars helped sponsor the event.
