Popular PLAY Everything program now invites parents to join the fun
Oct. 13, 2022
The popular GreatLIFE PLAY Everything program has some new clinics coming up for kids — and a chance for parents to join in the fun.
Since GreatLIFE launched PLAY Everything in 2019, hundreds of kids have participated either through in-school activities, or camps and clinics for specific sports.
“We’ve geared our programs for kids who aren’t sure about doing a sport, have never done it or are just starting,” PLAY Everything coordinator Tristen Jackson explained. “Parents tell me they really feel their child receives a lot of care at our events. Often, they come in, have a great time and then sign up for more camps.”
GreatLIFE is continually adding to its program, though, including fun new clinics for this fall and beyond.
Baseball, basketball clinics
It’s World Series season, so get in the swing of things with this new PLAY Everything clinic hosted at D-BAT Sioux Falls, 1300 E. Benson Road.
It’s from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 29, and the cost is just $10.
“You’ll go through hitting, fielding, positional coaching and then go through the pro shop where they’ll talk about different pieces of baseball equipment,” Jackson said. “We did something similar with the Sioux Falls Canaries over the summer that was super successful, so we hope kids are excited to continue and check out D-BAT.”
Kids will be coached by Chris Grace, a former Canaries player, and Ryan Flores, who played in independent and Mexican leagues.
The clinic is open to age 7 through 13. And, if your child really loves D-BAT, GreatLIFE members always receive five additional credits with the purchase of 15 credits or more on a swing card for those who aren’t D-BAT members. There’s also $10 off any membership for new D-BAT members.
Does your child-athlete gravitate more to basketball? There will be a PLAY Everything clinic from 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 5. The cost is $30 for both members and nonmembers at GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club.
GreatLIFE’s newest addition to PLAY Everything is the PLAY Together! program, which “is really meant for parents to participate with their child,” Jackson said. “We’re hoping we find kids who aren’t maybe sure about a sport, and if they go with their parents and it turns out they like the sport, they then can sign up for a clinic.”
The next one is a basketball session from 10:30 a.m. to noon Dec. 22 at Woodlake.
“I just had a parent sign up whose child is home-schooled and loves to shoot hoops in the drive. She’s excited to participate because she hasn’t played basketball since the 1990s,” Jackson said. “So it’s a great avenue for parents to get involved with the kids in their sport. Our plan is to teach drills they can then work on at home with their kids.”
After basketball, the next scheduled event is April 10, featuring soccer from 10:30 a.m. to noon at GreatLIFE Harrisburg.
“We’re just getting started and helping parents get to know about it,” Jackson said. “I think it’s a super-cool concept.”
PLAY Everything is sponsored by Dakota Sports.
“They’ve been great to work with and always willing to help out, whether it’s volunteering or with a credit to buy equipment,” Jackson said. “That’s been extremely beneficial because it allows us to buy equipment to use with the kids and have a bigger impact.”
